Transfer Marriott Points To Avios With A 25% Bonus

Avios has recently brought back its bonus offer for when you transfer your hotel loyalty points into Avios. Whilst this offer is open to customers with an IHG One, Marriott Bonvoy, Radisson Rewards, or World of Hyatt account, it only really makes sense when transferring Marriott Points To Avios. Because of this, we are just focusing on the Marriott part of the offer…

Offer details

When you transfer your points to Avios by the 25th of April, you’ll get a 25% bonus transferring your Marriott Points To Avios. Is it worth transferring my Marriott Points to Avios?

Whilst typically points are best spent in the loyalty program you have them in there are two factors that may swing the balance towards transferring out to Avios.

  1. Marriott has an impending devaluation of points when they move to dynamic pricing. Whilst no one knows exactly what the damage will be it’s likely that your Marriott Points will be worth less in 2023. Read more about the changes here – https://pointsuncovered.com/marriott/marriott-dynamic-pricing-for-points-stays-starts-29th-march/. If you have a lot of Marriott points you may like to hedge your bets if you know you can get good value from the Avios points.
  2. The standard conversion rate from Marriott Points to Avios is 3:1 but if you transfer in blocks of 60,000 Marriott points you’ll receive an extra 5,000 per block. This stacks with the 25% extra bonus which means 60,000 Marriott points will currently get you 31,250 Avios. This means you’d be getting 0.52p a Marriott point if you value Avios at 1p… which isn’t bad at all… considering 1)!

Don’t forget Marriott does have 40 different Airline partners, you may decide that having points in a different scheme is more beneficial than a 25% transfer bonus to Avios. For example, you could transfer into Emirates & make a redemption for one of the best first-class seats flying from the UK.

If you want to exit Marriott completely and don’t want Avios points don’t forget that Avios can be converted into Nectar points. 60,000 Marriott Points once converted into Avios then into Nectar would be worth £250. These would give you a cash saving at places such as Sainsbury’s, Argos & eBay.

Conclusion

If you’ve been looking for a way to minimise the risk of Marriotts’ impending devaluation this may be a good exit point for you. Don’t forget, however, Avios aren’t free of the risk of devaluation BUT you can transfer out into Nectar to give you a ‘cash’ saving on almost anything you’d buy in day-to-day life. What do you make of the 25% bonus? Is it enough for you to consider moving large chunks of Marriott points to Avios?
