If you are looking to sign up for The Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express you might be wondering what the sign-up bonus of 30000 Marriott points is worth? (You’ll need to spend £1,000 within 3 months to get it.) Or where you can stay for 30000 Marriott points? Read on to find out!
Am I eligible for the 30000 Marriott points sign-up bonus?
To be eligible for this bonus you can’t have held or current hold any personal American Express in the last 24 months. By taking this card out you also stop yourself getting a bonus on any other personal American Express card except for the Platinum Card or the British Airways American Express® Premium Plus Card. For further information on eligibility take a look at our article here – https://pointsuncovered.com/american-express/amex-changes-sign-up-bonus-eligibility/
If you are looking to collect as many sign up bonuses as you can, having this card first will still allow you to collect the sign up bonus on two other American Express cards. The only other card this is possible on is the Nectar Card from American Express.
This is my experience using the points system and is not a recommendation of any financial product. There are other credit cards which can earn you travel points including IHG credit card, Tesco Credit Cards (by exchanging Clubcard points for avios, hotel stays and more) & Virgin Atlantic credit card. If you use one of my links for a referral to an American Express card upon you being accepted I will receive points, this varies between 9,000 – 18,000 depending on the card I refer you from.
So where can I stay for 30000 Marriott Points?
The card earns 3 Marriott Points per pound so meeting the spend target will also give you an additional 3000 Marriott points. If you are referred you will receive an additional 3000 Marriott points on top of this. A total of 36,000 Marriott Points before any additional spending.
You can stay between 3 and 8 nights at a Category 1 hotel (Utilising Marriott’s stay for 5 pay for 4 on point redemptions.) They vary in price between 5,000 – 10,000 points a night depending on the date. The AC Hotel Valencia (located in Valencia of course!) is one option in Europe. Further afield you have hotels such as the AC Hotel Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia or the Courtyard Calgary South in Canada.
At a category 5 hotel you could stay a maximum of 1 night. The prices varies between 30,000 – 40,000 points a night depending on the dates of your stay. In Europe you could stay in the Residence Inn Amsterdam Houthavens in the Netherlands. Further afield you have hotels such as the Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa in Indonesia or the AC Hotel New York Times Square in the USA!
What value should I be aiming to get on a Marriott redemption?
I generally aim for at least 0.66p per point value when redeeming my Marriott points. Your own valuation may vary depending on the type of hotel you stay in yourself. Remember points often return excellent value when cash rates are high due to events and celebrations!
