You Can Now Earn Avios With Sainsbury’s!

In the last few days, you’ve probably heard about British Airways new partnership with Nectar which means you can now earn Avios with Sainsbury’s! Whilst not as lucrative (perhaps) as Tesco’s previous partnership there are some VERY interesting details!

400 Nectar Points for every 250 Avios points you convert

250 Avios points for every 400 Nectar Points you convert

You can only convert in multiples of 250 for Avios points and multiples of 400 for Nectar points.

What’s a Nectar point worth?

In the vast majority of cases, a Nectar point is worth 0.5p off your spending. So if we do the Maths…

250 Avios = 400 Nectar points = £2. If we then divide that £2 by 250 we arrive at 0.008. Giving our Avios points a minimum value of 0.8p when redeeming for Nectar points! Not bad…

Avios With Sainsbury’s – What’s the earning rate?

As I eluded to earlier unfortunately the earning rate isn’t as good as it was with Tesco’s. You earn 1 Nectar point for every £1 you spend in Sainsbury’s. This means every £1 you spend in Sainsbury’s will earn you 0.625 Avios based on the 400:250 conversion mentioned above.

If you have the Nectar app you will get weekly bonus offers on various groceries (normal things you’d buy anyway) e.g. Milk, fruit & veg. These can up your Nectar earning significantly so make sure you get the app, check the offers regularly and of course, add them!

Conclusion

This is a very positive move for Avios collectors in my opinion! Whilst you may or may not find the amount of Avios you earn from your shopping comparable to as with Tesco’s… You can convert 250 Avios into 400 Nectar points (£2) this gives your Avios a new minimum value you can obtain of 0.8p! Nectar points can be spent at Sainsbury’s Argos & Ebay to name a few options… which means they’re almost as good as cash!
