Do Avios Flights Earn Tier Points?

BA awards tier points on ‘eligible flights’. The amount you earn varies depending on what class you travel in and how far you travel. The further you travel and the higher class you travel in, the more tier points you will receive. For example, a business class return to New York will earn a lot more tier points than an economy return to Paris!

What’s an eligible flight?

An eligible flight is…

A British Airways operated flight (doesn’t matter if the flight number is not a BA one)
A flight operated with a BA flight number (can be operated by another airline)
Any Iberia operated flight that has an Iberia flight number

Reward bookings and agency or industry discounted bookings are not eligible. That means Avios flights won’t earn any Tier points!

What about Avios points?

Unfortunately, Avios bookings do not earn any Avios points either. The only exception is mentioned below when you upgrade from a cash booking.

What if I upgrade with Avios?

If you upgrade a CASH booking with Avios you will earn the tier points/Avios from your original booking. You won’t receive a higher or upgraded amount. If you upgrade an Avios booking unfortunately you will not get any tier points or Avios points from your booking.

Do Avios flights counts towards anything?
