Did You Know About The British Airways Best Price Guarantee?

Did you know that British Airways offers a best-price guarantee? It seems not many people do as it isn’t particularly well advertised! The British Airways Best Price Guarantee will refund you the difference in fare if you find an identical flight cheaper on a competing website but is it any good?

What is the British Airways Best Price Guarantee?

Unlike some hotel schemes where their Best Price Guarantee is pretty much worthless and they do everything possible not to pay out BA’s Best Price Guarantee is different. Whereas hotels get out of paying by the tiniest of differences e.g. chainwebsite.com has 3 pm check-in cheapwebsite.com has 3.30 pm check-in, with flights there aren’t any easy get-out clauses. A flight is a flight with the only differences available being the cabin class (economy, premium economy, business & first) and whether or not you have a flexible ticket (generally you’ll have a non-refundable ticket.)

This means it should be very easy to see if another website is selling the same ticket for less money.

BA says…

If you book flights directly with us, you deserve the very best deal. Which is exactly what you’ll get with our Best Price Guarantee.

If you book with us, but find a qualifying British Airways flight for less elsewhere and let us know on the same day as you book, we’ll give you a voucher for the difference. Even better: if you’re a member of our Executive Club, we’ll give you double the difference.

Unfortunately, you don’t receive the difference back in cash but as a voucher for ba.com that is valid one year from issue.

If you are an Executive Club member, you will receive double the difference as long as your claim (including the bonus) is for no more than £200. If your claim is £100 or under you’ll get double, £100 – £199 you’ll hit the £200 cap and anything above this isn’t doubled.

How to claim under the British Airways Best Price Guarantee?

To make a claim you need to send BA a screenshot (or multiple) that contains the following details…

  • Date and time the screenshot was taken;
  • Full itinerary (including all flight numbers);
  • A full breakdown of the individual fare for each passenger including credit/debit card
  • The fare rules and conditions any associated conditions that are applicable to the booking and
  • Website name/logo.

The easiest way to make a claim (in our opinion) is to screenshot every screen of the booking process until payment.

You can only claim online by filling in a claim form on BA’s website. BA promises to respond to your claim within 2 business days. Claims under £100 are paid immediately, claims larger than this can take up to 28 days due to additional verification checks.

Anything else to note?

The price guarantee is only valid on BA-operated flights, not on any flights operated by partner airlines. If you’ve used Avios to reduce the cost of your ticket you can’t claim. You also can’t claim if you have booked a fully flexible ticket as you are expected to cancel and rebook. Claims must also be in the same currency as the ticket you purchased with BA.

You can find more information/claim on this page of the BA website – https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/flights-and-holidays/flights/price-promise
