IHG One Rewards Summer Bonus Points Offer

IHG One Rewards has just launched its new Summer promotion for bonus points. It is relatively straight forward BUT you have to choose between two different options when you sign up. You can either choose 2,000 bonus points for every two cash nights or 10,000 bonus points for every four cash nights for stays between the 6th of June & the 31st of August. There is one small caveat…once you’ve signed up you can’t change your mind… so what one should you sign up for?

If you choose to get the bonus every two cash nights you will earn 2,000 bonus points each time and if you choose to get the bonus every four cash nights you will earn 10,000 points each time. There is no upper limit for the number of nights/points you can accrue under this promotion and it is valid for stays between the 6th of June and the 31st of August. Based on our 0.4p valuation of an IHG One Reward Point this is worth £8/£40 respectively.

What one should I sign-up for?

If you stay frequently at IHG hotels the choice is an easy one, you will be substantially better off by choosing the 10k offer. This would earn you 2,500 points a night per 4-night block over the 2k offer which would earn you 1,000 points a night per 2-night block.

If you don’t stay frequently you may be tempted by the 2,000-point offer BUT this only makes sense if you will only complete two/three nights before the 31st of August. If you complete four or more nights you will always be better off choosing the 10k offer. For example, 6 nights at the 2k offer would net you 6,000 points whereas 6 nights at the 10k offer would still net you 10,000 points.

So to sum up… if you are 100% sure you will do 3 nights or less sign-up for the 2k offer, if you aren’t sure or think you would do more we’d choose the 10k offer. You are only ‘gambling’ 2k/4k points but have the ability to make 10k.

What is the bonus worth?

We value an IHG One Reward Point at 0.4p which means under this offer (and assuming you do an exact multiple of 2/4 nights) you would earn…

An extra 1,000 points per night (£4 worth) under the 2 nights for 2k offer

An extra 2,500 points per night (£10 worth) under the 4 nights for 10k offer

Clearly, this offer works best for those staying at lower-end/cheaper IHG hotels such as Holiday Inn Expresses but if you are going to stay any way you may as well sign up!
