BREAKING: Amex Suspends Scrapping Of Pro-Rata Refunds

If you remember back in July we reported that Amex was ending pro-rata refunds of the annual fee on their cards in October. It now appears (according to Head for Points) that this policy has now been scrapped, at least for now…

What has happened?

On the Head For Points website it reads…

American Express has just informed us that it has suspended its plans to stop pro-rata fee refunds from 2nd October.

Past this there is no further information on why this has happened or indeed any official confirmation but according to the post on Head For Points website you should be able to ring American Express and confirm the new situation.

So What Is Actually Happening With Pro-Rata Refunds?

It now seems that pro-rata refunds will remain, at least for now. That means on any American Express card with an annual fee you will still receive a pro-rata refund on ‘unused’ months when you cancel your card.

Is This A Permanent Or Temporary Suspension?

We don’t know yet, though the comments on the article suggest that the suspension is in place for at least the rest of the year.

Hold tight for further information as it comes available!
