Can I Go Into An Airport & Ask For A Ticket For The Next Flight Out?

Have you ever thought about packing a bag, heading to the Airport, and asking for a ticket for the next flight out? Whilst it is possible there are some things you need to bear in mind which mean it’s not quite as simple as you might think…

The Next Flight Out Could Be To Anywhere…

Now obviously that is part of the fun but you need to consider…

1. Visa/Entry Requirements. Whilst some countries don’t have any Visa requirements or issue Visas on arrival others have a lengthier process that starts weeks if not months before a trip. Obviously, if the next flight is to one of these countries you won’t be able to fly/be denied entry. Don’t forget, particularly with COVID, various countries require proof of a recent/test and/or vaccination against COVID or other illnesses/diseases. The latter point is easier to get around if you ensure you are up to date on all vaccinations and take a PCR test within 48 hours of heading to the Airport.
   
2. Payment. It’s more likely than not that a last-minute flight anywhere is going to be incredibly expensive. You need to ensure you have a way of paying the fare whether it is in cash or points (what are points?) It will most certainly be better ‘value’ to pay in points if you have them.
   
3. Packing. It probably isn’t ideal to pack a suitcase full of summer clothes to end up somewhere in the middle of winter and vice-versa. Whilst you could split your suitcase for all weathers this isn’t ideal, particularly for longer trips where you need all the space you can get.

Conclusion

Whilst it can be done you may wish to add some prerequisites to your plan to make it a more enjoyable trip, for example, the next flight out that has an average daily temperature of 25C+ & has no complicated or lengthy visa requirements.
