How Many Avios Seats Per Flight Does BA Release?

Have you been trying to use your Avios for a redemption booking or an upgrade but are struggling to find availability? Despite there being plenty of availability for cash bookings? In this post, we are going to look at how many Avios seats per flight that BA releases and when they release them to help you secure your Avios booking!

How many Avios seats per flight does BA release?

Before we begin it’s important to remember the amount of Avios seats made available for booking are limited.

British Airways guarantees that they will release two Business Class seats and four economy seats to book with Avios for EVERY flight. That means on every single flight there is a guaranteed 6 seats available for Avios booking.

These seats are released as soon as tickets go on sale for the flight, which is at midnight 355 days before departure.

Don’t worry though… you don’t need to plan and book all your trips almost a year in advance! Booking at T355 is only needed on the more popular routes such as Sydney, Cape Town and the Maldives.

Unfortunately, there are no such guarantees for Premium Economy or First Class tickets. Although these are generally released at some point before departure.

Will any more Avios seats per flight be released?

There is the possibility of further Avios seats being released for booking. Unfortunately, there is no set way of knowing or working out when this may be. You can either periodically check on the British Airways website or use a site like Reward Flight Finder and set up alerts to be alerted if your tickets come available.

If you are willing to book last minute you may find Avios availability where there wasn’t before. This is because if the flight isn’t full and BA don’t believe they will fill the flight before departure they’d rather get some revenue from an Avios ticket than fly with a half-empty cabin!
