Get Up To 100000 Points With An Amex Business Card

American Express has just launched the biggest sign-up offer we have ever seen in the UK for a credit card. Until the 9th of April, you can get a 50000 membership reward point sign-up bonus on the Amex Gold Business Card & a HUGE 100000 points (yes not a typo!) on the Amex Platinum Business Card.

The sign-up bonus eligibility criteria is more generous than on personal cards…

If you have held or hold a membership reward earning card from American Express in the past 6 months you aren’t eligible for a sign-up bonus from an American Express card.

It really is that simple! Have a BA Amex and have not held a membership reward card in 6 months? You are good to go. Did you cancel your membership reward earning card 6 months+ ago? You are also good to go!

It also doesn’t affect the 24 month period to get the sign-up bonus for a personal card again as they only take personal cards into consideration when applying for a personal card!

What’s the catch?

Unfortunately, the higher sign-up bonuses also come with a higher spend target…

The Gold Business Card has changed from spending £3,000 in 3 months for 20,000 bonus points to spending £5,000 in 3 months for 50000 bonus points. That’s approx. £1666 a month or £416 a week

The Platinum Business Card has changed from spending £6,000 in 3 months for 40,000 bonus points to spending £10,000 in 3 months for 100000 bonus points. Approximately £3,333 a month or £833 a week.

If you are unable to reach these spend targets I would wait until after the 9th April where they should return to their original amounts.

Can I get a business card?

As long as you are a sole trader, partnership or registered as a limited company and meet the following criteria…

• The business has a current UK Bank or Building Society account
• You/The business have/has no County Court Judgements for non-payment of debt
• You are aged 18 or over
• You have a permanent UK home address

From personal experience, a personal bank account is acceptable as a sole trader and you do not need to be actively trading. We know people who were accepted putting company turnover at close to or at 0.

What about the annual fee?

The Gold Business card is FREE for the first year (£125 afterwards) as long as you cancel before then (and you can cancel at any time) you won’t pay ANYTHING. You won’t lose your points either, just transfer them to whichever scheme you want before you cancel. 

The Platinum Business card has a £595 annual fee.

Remember all annual fees on American Express are pro-rata refunded on cancellation. So if you kept a card for 6 months out of the 12 you’d receive a 50% on the annual fee (if you paid one.)

Can my partner, family member or friend get one too?

Of course! There are NO limits to how many people in your household can have a card. If you got one card you could then refer your family member/friend etc for extra points (9,000 from the gold business card or 18,000 from the platinum business card.) This way the points soon stack up! If you and one other person you referred got the Gold business card and met the spending target (make sure you are both eligible) you’d have 128,000 membership reward points when pooled together!
