BA Holidays on a BA Amex: which Avios rate applies to your package

If you pay for a British Airways Holidays package with a BA Amex, work out the Club Avios for the trip and the card Avios for the payment separately. One calculation starts with the package price and the travellers. The other starts with the amount charged to the card and the purchase rules.

BA Holidays is changing the Club calculation on 24 November

British Airways says that from 24 November 2026, eligible package bookings will earn 6 Avios per £1 of the package price, divided equally between travellers. Club members can collect their own share. This replaces the model based on the flights with an additional bonus for the lead passenger. If you’re booking before the launch or changing an existing booking, ask BA Holidays which rules apply to that booking before counting on the new rate. BA Holidays announcement

Check which charge qualifies for the card rate

Since 7 October 2026, UK BA Amex Premium Plus has earned 1.25 Avios per eligible £1, including eligible British Airways and British Airways Holidays purchases. Amex changed both the standard rate and the previous higher BA rate on that date. Count the eligible amount you actually pay with Premium Plus. If you charge only the deposit to that card, use the deposit in the card calculation. Amex Premium Plus Avios benefits · Amex UK rate change

BA’s Crete example with a Premium Plus payment

British Airways illustrates the change with a Crete holiday at £1,886 per person, or £3,772 for two. Under the previous rules its example awarded 5,462 Club Avios to the lead traveller and 1,690 to the second. At the new rate of six per pound, the same price earns 22,632 Club Avios, split into 11,316 each. BA Holidays announcement and worked example

Now add a separate card payment to the example. If one of the travellers pays all £3,772 as a single eligible Premium Plus purchase, the payment earns 4,715 card Avios at 1.25 per pound. The cardholder would receive 16,031 Avios across the two routes and the other traveller 11,316. Amex card earning and crediting

Before booking, verify which package rule applies and which Club number belongs to each traveller. When paying, keep the card receipt and check the Avios credited against each qualifying charge. That makes it easier to ask the right company if either amount differs from your estimate.
