ALL UK Covid Travel Restrictions To End Friday

The final remaining UK Covid Travel Restrictions are being lifted this Friday (18th March.) This means arrivals into the UK will no longer need to fill in a Passenger Locator Form or get a test if you are unvaccinated.

What are the UK Covid Travel Restrictions at the moment?

Currently, travellers who are not fully vaccinated have to take a Covid test before departure, fill in a Passenger Locator form, and book and pay for a PCR test after arriving. Travellers who are vaccinated are just required to fill in the Passenger Locator form. This change is a massive winner for the unvaccinated who now save the cost of two COVID costs when returning to the UK.

Where can I read more details about the update to the UK Covid Travel Restrictions?

Like most of the travel restrictions set by the Government during COVID-19, this update was posted on Twitter by Transport Secretary Grant Shapps…

This was then later posted on the Government website – https://www.gov.uk/government/news/all-covid-19-travel-restrictions-removed-in-the-uk

This is the first time since the Pandemic began that holidaymakers can enter/return to the UK without any restrictions. In a sign that they really want this to be the end of COVID travel restrictions, or at least another red list, the remaining managed hotel quarantine capacity will be fully stood down from the end of March.

Tim Alderslade, Chief Executive of Airlines UK, said:

Today’s announcement sends a clear message to the world – the UK travel sector is back. With travellers returning to the UK no longer burdened by unnecessary forms and testing requirements, we can now look forward to the return to pre-COVID normality throughout the travel experience.

We’re grateful for the timing of the announcement as we prepare to welcome back passengers this Easter and summer, for which we know there is huge pent-up demand, and for the UK’s leadership in being the first major aviation market to remove all remaining restrictions. The time to return to the skies – to enjoy all that makes aviation and international travel great, for families and businesses – is now.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said:

Two years after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, today’s announcement marks international travel finally returning to normal. The removal of passenger locator forms and testing regimes means that customers can at long last enjoy hassle-free travel, just like they did before the pandemic.

With Easter just around the corner and summer fast approaching, this announcement comes at the perfect time. Since restrictions started to be eased at the beginning of the year, we have experienced strong, sustained demand and the complete removal of forms and requirements will boost that demand even further.

Conclusion

Whilst it remains to be seen if this will be the last of any COVID-19 restrictions in the UK it will be a welcome move for many, particularly for those involved in the travel sector. What do you make of today’s announcement? Do you think it is the end of UK Covid travel restrictions for good?
