Tesco to Virgin Points Conversion Rate Cut

If you have a Tesco Clubcard it’s likely that you recently received an email detailing cuts to partner rewards. From the 14th of June, the conversion rate for all partner rewards drops from 3X face value to 2X face value of your Clubcard vouchers. One key bit of information was missing from the email however if you convert Tesco to Virgin points… what is happening to them? Read on to find out…

The Tesco Clubcard Devaluation…

As mentioned above from the 14th of June, the conversion rate for all partner rewards drops from 3X face value to 2X face value of your Clubcard vouchers. A huge 33% drop in value!

To ease the blow slightly Tesco has extended the validity of partner vouchers ordered by the 13th of June to 12 months from the normal 6 months.

You can read about the changes on Tesco’s website here – https://www.tesco.com/help/articles/16250187592089-Change-to-Tesco-Clubcard-Reward-Partner-scheme-from-14-June-2023

Tesco Clubcard has become less relevant for people who like to travel in recent years with Avios and Hilton disappearing as partners. The good news is that Hotels.com and Virgin are remaining as Tesco Clubcard partners albeit at reduced conversion rates…

So what about transferring Tesco to Virgin Points?

At the moment £1 in Tesco Clubcard vouchers converts into 250 Virgin Points. From the 14th of June (21st of July if you auto-convert), this will drop to £1 converting into 200 Virgin Points. This is a slightly smaller decrease (20%) in value in comparison to other partner rewards (33%)

If you value Virgin points at 1p this will ‘equal’ out all partner redemptions with £1 being worth £2 at partners such as Hotels.com and 200 points (£2) with Virgin Atlantic.

Conclusion

Devaluations are never welcome but at least you have plenty of notice to redeem your vouchers before the value drops. If you have a large stash of Clubcard vouchers remember you have until the 13th of June to redeem your vouchers at the old, higher rate.
