Earn 4 Nectar Points (2.5 Avios) Per £1 With The Nectar Amex In November

Nectar has announced a boosted points earning offer for those with The American Express Nectar Card. If you opt-in (from 24 October) and use your Nectar Amex and Nectar loyalty card in November you will receive at least 4 Nectar Points per £1 at Argos, Sainsbury’s or eBay and at least 4 points per litre of fuel at Esso until 30 November.

How do I sign-up for the offer?

You can opt-in from the 24 October here – https://www.nectar.com/offer-details/brand/24B14C1895 – until this date, you won’t be able to opt in.

How does it work?

There aren’t any publically available T&Cs yet but we’d assume after opting in when you spend using your Nectar Amex and your Nectar Card in November you’d receive 1 extra bonus Nectar Point per £1. This is because at the moment…

Nectar Amex earns 2 points per £1
Nectar Card earns 1 point per £1

So to earn at least 4 Nectar Points per £1 spent you are missing 1 Nectar Point which is likely to be added as a bonus.

Is it worth signing up for?

Absolutely! If you have the Nectar Amex and have any amount of considerable spend at any of the retailers in the offer it will temporarily turn into the best ‘cashback’ card in your wallet combined with the Necat card. Regardless if you collect Nectar points or Avios points you will get an excellent return on your spend. 4 Nectar points per £1 equate to the equivalent of 2p back per £1/2%. If you wanted to convert into Avios points you’d get the equivalent of 2.5 Avios per £1, a whopping 2.5% if you value Avios at 1p.

The Nectar Amex

We don’t normally talk about the Nectar Amex as the card isn’t really aimed at those wanting to travel BUT it does feature in our Fast track guide to 200,000 Avios. This is because it’s FREE for the first year (normally £25) AND the 20,000 Nectar points sign-up bonus can be converted into 12,500 Avios points whilst still being able to get the sign-up bonus on other cards too.

From a points-earning perspective, it’s actually pretty decent earning 2 Nectar points per £1 (convertible into 1.25 Avios per £1) and actually beats the 1 Avios per £1 earning rate of the Free BA Amex & Free Avios Barclaycard.

Outside of this it doesn’t really have any travel-related benefits and has a hefty 3% FX as do all American Express cards when used abroad.

The representative APR is 32.0% variable, including the annual fee from Year 2, based on a notional credit limit of £1,200. The representative APR on purchases, and in Year 1, is 26.6% variable.
