Can You Walk Between Heathrow T5, T5B & T5C?

When traveling between the main terminal and the 5B & 5C satellite terminals you are likely to hop on the train that runs between them. Whilst there is nothing wrong with the train there is an alternative way to reach the satellite terminals if you’d like to stretch your legs or avoid the crowds. If you push the bottom button (-4) on the lift to the transit train you will end up in a tunnel which will allow you to walk between Heathrow T5, T5B & T5C.

The walk isn’t as long as you think with travelators covering roughly half of the total distance. When timing the walk it took us 10 minutes between T5 & T5B and 15 minutes between T5 & T5C, the shorter walk between T5B & T5C coming in at 5 minutes.

The walk is well sign-posted along the way letting you know rough estimates of the time your walk will take you and which gates are in what direction.

Why would I want to walk between Heathrow T5, T5B & T5C?

1. The walk is an awful lot quieter than the train. In all the times we’ve used it we’ve only ever seen a handful people at most using it.
   
2. You can also access the Galleries lounge in Terminal 5B and still get back to the main terminal building. The Galleries lounge in Terminal 5B is substantially quieter than the lounge in the main terminal building.

Don’t forget that if your flight is from Terminal 5 you will need to use the tunnel to return. Do not use the train from Terminal 5B to Terminal 5 as this will drop you at immigration with no way back to the departure gates. If you do this you will need to clear immigration and rego through security at departures.
