If you are pushing for a higher status with Marriott Bonvoy this year it’s great to have a UK option from just 5,000 points a night. Why? Points stays counts towards status BUT they DON’T when completing a status challenge. You’d need to be local however as if you don’t show up the hotel will just check you out and you won’t receive your elite nights!

What is the value of 10000 Marriott points?

We have a slightly more generous valuation of Mar points compared to other blogs because we base our valuation on our Avios valuation. We value Avios at 1p which transfers 1:1 from American Express Membership Reward Points, Marriott points transfer 2 membership reward points to 3 Marriott points. This means we value our Marriott points at 0.66p and won’t transfer across for lower value redemptions.

If you take our valuation of 0.66p a point you are in effect paying £66 a night at 10000 Marriott points.

Is it worth buying Marriott points?

Sometimes… We briefly covered it here. But the key thing here is to compare the price you are purchasing the points at compared to the cash rate of the hotel you want to stay in.

If you buy from Marriott without a sale or special offer the price is $12.50 per 1,000 Marriott points (around £8.94.) which means you are paying roughly 0.89p a point. You can purchase them here – https://storefront.points.com/marriott/en-US/buy – occasionally Marriott runs offers on purchasing points which will decrease the cost per point.

Conclusion

Have you ever stayed in any hotels that are 10000 Marriott Points or less a night? If so, what was your favourite?
