Our Review Of The Delta Hotels by Marriott Bexleyheath

With a friend’s wedding approaching, we found ourselves needing a place to stay in Bexleyheath. The town isn’t exactly plush of hotel options with the three main ones being a Marriott, Premier Inn or Holiday Inn. We settled on the Delta Hotels by Marriott Bexleyheath (previous the Marriott Bexleyheath before Marriott’s re-brand of regional hotels to Deltas) as it was close to the town centre, the wedding venue (Hall Place & Gardens) and had the benefit of being recently refurbished…

Location

The hotel is located just outside the main town centre/shopping centre (5 minute walk.) Here you’ll find a variety of shops/restaurants to suit all tastes including Sainsbury’s, M&S, Nandos & a Wetherspoons. If you are staying for a wedding at Hall Place & Gardens (like us) it’s a 16 minute walk or 3 minute taxi. For those arriving via train it is a 24 minute walk from Bexleyheath station, 5 minutes on the 422 bus and a short walk or 5 minutes in a taxi. If you are driving the hotel has limited on-site parking for £9 a day, if this is full or you fancy a slightly cheaper option next to this is Bexley Council parking priced at £6 a day.

We arrived to check in around 3PM with a small-ish queue waiting to check-in. Despite the queue being relatively short it took a while to check-in but the reception staff were friendly & welcoming. We were assigned a room on the ground floor (429) despite asking for a high-floor. We are Gold Elite members but the status doesn’t have any real discernible benefits nor was it highlighted at check-in

Next to the reception you have a small snack bar and opposite it a variety of seating. Also on the ground floor you have the Brew Bar Lounge and Cast Iron Grill (where breakfast is served.)

The Room

The room was a good size but as soon as you walked in (despite being recently refurbished) you notice a musky ‘old room’ smell. This seems to be reflected in the room itself only appearing to have a partial refurbishment keeping some of the dated elements (why?!)

As you enter the space immediately on the right is space to store you luggage. After this a medium sized wardrobe with full length mirrors (only the first two doors are part of the wardrobe that you can open.) In here you’ll find an ironing board, iron, hairdryer, safe and of course hangers. The iron was a nightmare and kept putting little bits on the things we were ironing.

After this you enter the main space of the room you’ll see the bed on the left which was the best bit about the room, I slept all through the night which I rarely do on a ‘new’ bed. Both sides had a lamp with a USB port for charging. The master side also had a spare plug for charging and a pre-historic phone…

After this was a lamp in the corner alongside two armchairs and a small table by the window. The room backed onto a busy road with the sound proofing only OK.

On the opposite side of the room as you enter the main space there is a small section in the wardrobe where you’ll find tea/coffee making facilities. Underneath this behind a cupboard door is a small fridge which was empty.

After this is desk, mirror and chair (which was comfy enough.) There were two plug sockets here with two USB ports for charging, a small desk lamp and two lamps either side of the mirror. After this is an empty cabinet with the TV on.

The air conditioning was incredibly noisy (and old fashioned) but thankfully it wasn’t hot so we didn’t need it on (good old British summer!)

There was no free water in the room as per the branding and unfortunately we were woken up by our neighbours blaring music at 2am. When we departed in the morning the corridor also had a strong stench of weed…

The Bathroom

The bathroom again seemed to be a victim of a ‘partial refurbishment.’ Directly in front of you as you walk in is a large illuminated mirror. Whilst this all appeared to be new the taps were in a sorry state. To the left was the towel rail and toilet (which took forever to fill up.) On the right was a bath/shower which also appeared to be old (or at least not well looked after!) It also had one of those horrid shower heads that are fixed to the wall. Water pressure was good as was the temperature control. Tolietries were thisworks branded and non-removable/reusable.

Breakfast

We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel but if you wish to it costs from £10 for a Grab-n-Go breakfast, from £15.50 for a Continental breakfast and from £18.50 for a hot/buffet breakfast. There are certainly much better value options in the town centre including Cuore Food From The Earth & The Giggling Sausage.

Conclusion

Despite everything we would stay again if we had to. It appears to be the best of a rather limited uninspiring choice in Bexleyheath and it is in a good location. We are not sure why the refurbishment only seems to be a part job but perhaps that’s why it moved away from the Marriott brand as it didn’t want to spend enough money to meet brand standards! Rooms start from around £90 or around 30,000 Marriott points (remember Marriott redemption’s are now dynamic meaning you could pay less or more than this.)
