I’m a Hilton Diamond Member… How do I gift elite status for free?

To thank its most elite members for their continued loyalty this season, Hilton Honors is extending a one-time special gift to its global Diamond and Lifetime Diamond members.

Beginning next week until January 31, 2021, these elite members will be able to gift status for one year to a family member or friend. Typically, the Elite Status Gifting benefit is reserved for members who complete a standard, annual night requirement.

Diamond members will receive an email with instructions on how to gift Gold status and Lifetime Diamond members will be able to gift Diamond status. For members who earned Status Gifting through their 2020 nights, this is an extra opportunity to gift to someone new.

Anything to be aware of?

Gifted status is good for 365 days from the gift date. It doesn’t follow the normal program year.

You can still in addition earn another status gifting opportunity by reaching 60 or 100 nights in a calendar year.

You only get one recipient… and once you’ve chosen you can’t change it… so choose carefully!

What benefits will my friend/family member get?

As a diamond member you are probably aware of the status benefits gifting diamond would bring… but is Gold status any good? In short, YES! It’s the most generous mid-tier status of any major loyalty program and allows status holders FREE breakfast at most brands and upgrades on the booked room to name a few! Conclusion

This is a nice gesture from Hilton which may encourage new status holders to book into hotels in 2021. It’s still likely to be a very difficult year for hotels and bookings so little things like this may help shift some business towards Hilton.
