Buy Hilton Points With Discount Or Bonus & Annual Cap Doubled

Hilton has brought back its offer for buying Hilton Points but this time you have a choice of a bonus or a discount when purchasing. As per normal for buying Hilton points offers the annual cap has been doubled for this offer. To get the bonus or discount you need to purchase at least 5,000 Hilton points before the 18th of July. But the million-dollar question remains… Should you buy Hilton Points when an offer is on? Should you choose a discount or a bonus? Read on to find out…

What’s the difference between the discount/bonus offer?

You will receive a 50% discount or a 100% bonus (you can choose.) It only makes a difference if you want under 10,000 points, over 160,000 points, or an odd amount of points. The price is identical for all purchases it’s just with the 100% bonus…

You can only buy a minimum of 10,000 points (5,000 + 5,000 points) (use the discount if you want less)
You can only buy in multiples of 2,000 with the bonus (e.g. 5,000 + 5,000 points = 10,000 points, 6,000 + 6,000 points = 12,000 points) (use the discount if you want a multiple of 1,000 under 160,000)
You can buy up to 320,000 in total (160,000 + 160,000 points)

With the discount…

You can buy a minimum of 5,000 points
You can buy in multiples of 1,000
You can only buy 160,000 points (use the 100% bonus if you want more)

Should I Buy Hilton Points?

Under the offer you are purchasing points for just under 0.41P each (varying on the exchange rate) regardless if you choose the discount or bonus. Although I value the points I have at 0.5p each I’m not a purchaser at this rate UNLESS:

  1. In some cash-expensive hotels buying points and redeeming them for a stay is better value than paying cash. This is especially true if you hold any Hilton status and get 5 nights for the price of 4. If you don’t hold any Hilton status take a look at Hilton’s Status match site to see if you qualify!) A good example where points are great value is the Waldorf Astoria Maldives – here a random 5-night stay will set you back $14,760.41 or 600,000 Hilton points which with this offer (if you could buy enough) would cost you $3,000… a lot better value. For more examples of when booking with points may make sense check our article here – https://pointsuncovered.com/hilton/when-booking-a-hotel-with-points-makes-sense/
  2. I need the points to top me up to make a redemption

If you are a few points short of the amount needed for a redemption the price per point isn’t really a concern. Now would be as good time as any to top up your point collection!

The standard annual cap of being able to purchase 80,000 Hilton points per calendar year has been DOUBLED so with the 100% bonus you can purchase 320,000 points for $1,600 (approx £1291.) Previously the offer has run with the annual cap tripled or without the annual cap being changed.
