Where Can You Fly To On Iberia With Avios Points?

With the recent upgrade to BA American Express 2-4-1 vouchers now enabling you to use your voucher on Iberia flights we wanted to take a look at where you can fly to on Iberia with Avios points. The change opens up new routing options and lower ‘tax’ options if you are using a 2-4-1 voucher…

Where can I fly to on Iberia with Avios?

From the UK if you want to fly long-haul with Iberia / Iberia Express you will need to fly to their hub (Madrid) either on a separate ticket or with a connecting flight as part of one ticket. They fly regularly from all across the UK (London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Manchester, Belfast & Edinburgh.)

Once you are at their hub you have a wide range of routes available…

Below are all RETURN fares to the relevant destinations for one person.

As you can see the ‘taxes & fees’ for Iberia redemptions are much more reasonable than British Airways!

You can book e.g. London – New York with the connection in Madrid as one ticket but to avoid long haul Air Passenger Duty we’d recommend booking London – Madrid and then Madrid to your destinations as two separate tickets. The downside is that it’s likely you would need to collect your luggage and then recheck it in for your next flight before clearing security again. In addition, Iberia is not obliged to help you if you miss your connection.

Even if you want to book the entire routing on one ticket we’d recommend searching for just the long-haul routing first. This way you get a true idea of long-haul availability rather than none showing due to there being no short-haul Avios availability.

How do I use my BA Amex 2-4-1 voucher On Iberia?

Using your 2-4-1 voucher on Iberia flights follows the same process as you would when using it for BA flights. You need to do it from your BA Executive Club account (as that’s where the voucher goes!) so make sure you are logged in. Once you are logged in click book and then select ‘Book a flight with Avios.’ Here tick the box to use the 2-4-1 companion voucher and choose your preferred destination/dates etc. before searching.

Iberia With Avios - New York

Any Iberia flights you will see clearly marked…

Pricing follows Iberia’s on-peak/off-peak pricing even though you are booking on the British Airways website. It also follows Iberia’s pricing chart which is normally the same as BA but there are some great deals e.g. 68,000 Avios + £220 ‘taxes & fees’ for an off-peak return from Madrid to New York. If you are using a 2-4-1 voucher it’s even better value with 2 people for the same amount of Avios and an extra £220 ‘taxes & fees.’
