How Many Avios To Fly Business Class?

If you are new to collecting Avios you may be wondering how many Avios to fly business class on holiday. The answer may surprise you and it is very attainable particularly if you are flying within Europe…

How to find how many Avios to fly Business Class?

There a few ways you can check the amount of Avios points needed for a business class flight. They are…

  1. Using British Airways’ reward flight calculator located here – https://www.britishairways.com/travel/avios-calculator/public/en_gb?eId=199006
  2. By logging in and going onto book flights with Avios – https://www.britishairways.com/travel/redeem/execclub/_gf/en_gb?eId=106019
  3. Using reward flight finder – https://rewardflightfinder.com/ – here you can put in your origin/destination airport, how many people, what travel class and whether you want a single or return ticket. The site will then at the top show you the cost in Avios, taxes due and a calendar where you can see all the availability for your tickets without having to search for individual dates.
  4. You can also reference the table below which we have made up based on flights from London. Check what zone your destination is in then reference the chart to see the Avios cost.

Benefits of using Avios to fly business…

As you can see the cheapest Business Class return is just 15,500 Avios which covers a lot of France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. Now you might think flying Business Class within Europe is a waste of Avios but I disagree… this is what you get for your 15,500 Avios & £50 ‘taxes & fees’…

  • Priority check-in. Means no long queues at check-in!
  • Bigger luggage allowance – 32kg
  • Fast track security where available
  • Entry to a lounge where you can relax away from the hustle and bustle of the Airport. You also have access to food and drink (including booze!) to consume as much or as little as you want before your flight
  • Priority boarding which means you get to board the plane first as ‘Group 1’ – If you hate waiting around for everyone to board you’ll love this benefit.
  • You get seated at the front of the plane with an empty middle seat, handy to beat the queues at passport control!
  • Finally, you also get a free meal (if you wondering what the meals are like check out our post on the Club Europe food. This is supplemented by free hot and cold drinks… and of course champagne!)

As you can see the experience is a lot nicer than ‘roughing’ it in economy with BA or heading off to Stansted or Luton & flying Easy Jet or Ryanair!

What about using Avios to fly business long-haul?

If you want to experience business class with a bed you will, of course, need to fly a little bit further than Europe! Zone 5 is the cheapest long-haul zone which will get you a bed! It includes places such as Dubai, New York & Toronto and will set you back 100,000 Avios for an off-peak return… a little more expensive! But of course a completely different experience!

I think once you’ve sampled Business Class you’ll be hooked, even on short-haul!

Remember…

Avios flights aren’t ‘free’ British Airways charge so-called ‘taxes and fees’ on redemptions. In Europe, with BA’s reward flight saver scheme, these are capped at £35 return in economy class and £50 return in business class per person. You’re eligible as long as you’ve collected at least one Avios in the past 12 months.

Taxes and charges on British Airways long-haul redemptions in Club World and First Class are around £600 per person.
