Easy Bonus 200 Avios When Converting BPme Reward Points For The First Time
BP has just launched a new promotion between its loyalty programme BPme and Avios. If you haven’t converted BPme Rewards points into Avios before, you will receive a 200 Avios bonus if you make a transfer before the 31st of March.
How do I join BPme?
There are two ways you can register…
- Download the BPme App on your smartphone.
- Register on the website but in order to do this you need to visit a BP garage first as you need to pick up a temporary card and then register online using the number on the card.
There is a 500 points bonus when registering which cannot be transferred out until you have earned 25 points.
How do I earn BPme Reward Points?
You will earn…
- 2 points for every 1L of Ultimate fuel purchased
- 1 point for every 1L of Regular fuel purchased
- 1 point for every £1 spent in a BP forecourt store (including car wash)
1 point is worth 0.5p in cash or 0.625p when transferred to Avios (if you value at 1p.)
How many Avios will I earn?
Every 40 BPme Reward points you convert will earn 25 Avios, this is a one-way conversion and you can’t convert in the opposite direction. You can earn the 40 BPme Reward points by filling up with 40 litres of standard fuel or £40 worth of shopping in the BP forecourt shop, or a mixed spend of both. This means you are earning 0.625 Avios per litre of fuel (0.416667 Avios per £1 if fuel is £1.50) and 0.625 Avios per £1 spent instore.
Is it worth doing?
If you are new to BPme making one fill at your local garage might be pretty attractive. You will get…
- 500 BPme Rewards points for joining
- At least 25 BPme Rewards points for buying the 25l of fuel
- 525 BPme Rewards points convert into 325 Avios
- There is a 200 bonus Avios for your first conversion, taking your total earnings to 525 Avios
If you value Avios at 1p it means a £5.25 ‘rebate’ on your first fill. Alternatively, if you converted them into Nectar points they’d be worth approximately £3.28.
Past this initial bonus, the ongoing earning rate isn’t great. At £1.50 a litre of fuel you’d only be earning a 0.33% rebate on your spend. This would decrease even further if you are paying even more. In BP forecourt stores you are earning 0.5% back on your spend. If you use BP anyway for your fuel you might as well sign-up but it’s certainly not worth switching for!
Is cash or Avios better value?
200 BPme Reward points converts into 125 Avios or £1 cash. As we value Avios at 1p (and thus £1.25) we think converting into Avios represents the better value option (you are technically buying them at 0.8p this way.)
Is there an auto-conversion feature?
Yes. You can set up a monthly auto-conversion of your BPme Rewards points to Avios. They will be moved across in chunks of 40 BPme Rewards points.
Conclusion
If you aren’t already a member of BPme you may want to consider signing up to get the sign-up/first conversion bonus. Other than this there isn’t really any ongoing benefit unless you regularly fill up at a BP garage. You can read more on the BPme website or the BA website.
