Amex Platinum Cardholder? You Can Now Pre-Book UK Airport Lounges For FREE…

After what seems an eternity of complaints from Platinum Card holders that they struggled to access UK Airport lounges with their Priority Pass Amex has finally responded. Effective immediately PERSONAL Amex Platinum & Centurion users can pre-book selected UK Airport lounges for free. The offer currently runs until the end of the year but we would imagine if successful it would become a permanent addition to the card benefits.

Unfortunately, this offer only applies to the PERSONAL Platinum/Centurion card and NOT the BUSINESS versions.

What UK Airport Lounges can I now pre-book with my Amex Platinum Card?

You can currently pre-book the following UK Airport Lounges…

Surprisingly No1 Lounges ‘premium’ lounge brand ‘Clubrooms’ is also included in the lounges you can pre-book for free. Usually costing £15pp to reserve (rather than the £6 of their other lounges) Clubrooms has improved food and drink options over their ‘standard’ lounges. If you are flying from Gatwick or Birmingham I would definitely preference these lounges over the other options.

How can I make a pre-booking with my Platinum Card for an Airport Lounge?

If you haven’t already you will need to register your Priority Pass online either through the website or via downloading the app. Once you’ve done this simply browse for the Airport/Lounge you desire, choose pre-book and proceed to fill in all your details. It will say about being charged until you get to the end of the process where you should see this option.

Here you can select how many of your pre-booking entitlements you want to use, if you use the same amount as people in your booking your booking will become free.

Am I limited to the amount of pre-bookings I can make with my Platinum Card?

Unfortunately, yes. In the ‘trial’ period until the end of the year you have FOUR pre-booking credits that you can use. You will ‘spend’ one credit per person on your pre-booking so a couple flying would use two of these credits.

The offer does also apply to your supplementary card holder, so if they are your partner and travel with you, you in effect have 8 pre-booking credits that you can use before the end of the year.

Conclusion

This is a great addition for Platinum Card holders who have often struggled to access airport lounges in the UK due to overcrowding. Whilst some would argue it’s the restoration of a benefit they couldn’t use we are just glad that now it will be a lot easier to ‘guarantee’ access to a lounge rather than rely on pot luck to gain access.
