How To Choose Where To Credit Flights?

If you are flying with an Airline you don’t normally fly with you might be wondering where the best location to credit your flights is. Particularly if it’s a one-off flight and you don’t want to open an account with the airline you are flying with. Whilst you might think it would be sensible to credit to an airline in the same alliance where you have an account this isn’t always the best option… Read on to learn what is the best place to credit flights!

Why it isn’t that simple…

Different Airlines treat different partners/ticket types differently, they also often have different partners outside their respective alliances too. For example, one Airline may only give 100% of the miles flown on a business ticket whereas another gives 200% of the miles flown. Another might not even offer any miles flown on a discounted ticket! There are lots of different anomalies like this that can make it hard to decide where to credit flights. Thankfully there is a solution…

Where should I credit flights?

Thankfully someone has created a website that will answer that very question! Aptly named where to credit you simply need to put in the Airline you are flying with and the booking class (if known, this should be on your e-ticket.) It will then show you where the best place to credit your flight is… it’s as simple as that!

Credit Flights Example

In the above example flying in J class (business) on Sri Lankan Airlines you’d be better off crediting your flight to Qatar Airways (150% of miles flown) than to British Airways (125% of miles flown.) You could then easily move the Avios you earnt from your Qatar Airways account to your BA account.

This doesn’t however take into consideration the tier points you’d earn by crediting the flight to BA.

Things to consider…

The data may also be outdated or incomplete so make sure you always double-check the data you get.

You should also consider any tier points or similar benefits you get from different airlines, particular if you are chasing status with a particular airline

Conclusion

Where To Credit is a great site which simplifies the process of checking where the best place to credit your flight is. Whilst some of the data is incomplete and doesn’t include things such as tier points earnt it’s still a very valuable resource. Have you used Where To Credit before?
