Avios Transfers To/From Finnair Plus Are LIVE!

In March Finnair joined British Airways, Qatar Airways, Iberia, Vueling and Aer Lingus in adopting Avios as their reward currency. Whilst perhaps not the first airline you have in mind for using your Avios in the UK it opened up further Avios earning/spending options (though unfortunately Avios transfers to/from Finnair weren’t enabled.) You can read about the changes in full on Finnair’s website – https://www.finnair.com/gb-en/finnair-plus/finnair-plus-changes

Avios Transfers are now LIVE!

One thing was missing from the March launch was the ability to transfer Avios to/from Finnair & British Airways. Whilst you are able to book Finnair flights on the BA website using Avios (and the pricing is meant to match) there were still some things you couldn’t do…

  • You couldn’t transfer your Avios into Finnair to redeem on a Finnair only partner
  • You couldn’t transfer Avios into Finnair to upgrade your Finnair flight
  • You were unable to merge any existing Finnair Avios with your British Airways Avios

This has now changed! You can now transfer Avios between your Finnair and British Airways accounts and vice-versa. However you can’t transfer from Finnair to another Airline that uses Avios. You will need to send your Avios to British Airways and then onto it’s final destination e.g. Qatar Airways.

You can transfer your Avios to/from Finnair on the BA website here – https://exchange.shopping.ba.com/partner/finnair

What new partners are there with Finnair?

  • Car hire – earn Avios with Hertz, Sixt and Europcar
  • Hotels – earn and spend Avios with GLO, Scandic, Sokos, Strawberry / Nordic Choice, Shangri-La
  • Airlines – Earn and spend Avios with Braathens and Juneyao Air
  • Restaurants – Use your Avios for restaurant vouchers.

Conclusion

It’s good that Avios transfers to/from Finnair are now live for those looking to take advantage of new earning/spending routes for their Avios. Whilst pricing should be consistent across all platforms it is probably worth now checking BA, Qatar Airways & Finnair when booking a flight with a oneworld airline that doesn’t use Avios as their currency. There may be some discrepancies in the pricing that can be taken advantage of! You should also check Avios availability across the 3 in case it differs (which it sometimes does!)
