Santander Edge vs Edge Up: when eligible bills cover the monthly fee
Start with a month of household bills before switching for cashback. Santander Edge and Edge Up pay 1% on selected bills paid by Direct Debit. Use the bills Santander confirms are eligible to estimate how much either account could return after its monthly fee.

Which bills and payments count?
Check Santander’s eligible supplier list and the payment method before including a bill. Keep supermarket card purchases and unrelated transfers out of your bill cashback calculation. Santander Edge terms and eligible bills · Santander Edge Up terms and eligible bills
Check the monthly funding and fee
Edge charges £3 a month and caps bill cashback at £10 a month. Its funding requirement is £500 a month. Edge Up charges £5, caps bill cashback at £15 and requires £1,500 in monthly funding. Both require two active Direct Debits. Check Santander’s account terms to confirm which deposits count towards the monthly funding requirement. Edge account details · Edge Up account details
What £400 of eligible bills would return
Suppose £400 of bills qualify in a month and you meet the funding and Direct Debit conditions on either account. At 1%, either would pay £4 before fees. On Edge that leaves £1 after the £3 fee. On Edge Up it leaves a £1 shortfall against the £5 fee. On cashback alone, Edge breaks even at £300 of qualifying monthly bills and Edge Up at £500, assuming you meet all the other conditions.
Do the calculation month by month. A bill paid in fewer than 12 instalments will leave some months with less qualifying spend. Add your eligible bills, multiply by 1%, apply the account’s cashback cap, then subtract the monthly fee. Compare any interest or other benefits separately.
