Can I Transfer Virgin Points To A Friend/Family Member?

If you and your friend/family member are collecting Virgin points you may be wondering if there is a way to combine your points together in a household account? Or perhaps you’d like to transfer Virgin Points to another person? The good news is household accounts to pool Virgin points exist (with a huge caveat attached) and you CAN transfer Virgin Points to another person. Read on to find out more!

Can I transfer Virgin points for free?

No at the moment there is no way to transfer points for free, even if you have Gold status! There are some other options though…

Can I transfer Virgin points if I pay?

Yes, you can but it’s ridiculously expensive! Transferring miles costs £7.50 per 1,000 sent (plus a £15 transaction fee on all transactions)

Fortunately there are three other ways…

Make a booking for someone else

You can make a booking for ANYONE from your Virgin Atlantic account using your Virgin Points. All you need to know is their full name on their passport! The ‘taxes and fees’ can be paid using any credit card too… it doesn’t have to be yours! You can also choose which email address receives the flight confirmation details. The passport details, D.O.B etc. can be added by the person you booked for later on under My Booking section on the Virgin Atlantic website.

Virgin Atlantic Household account

Another way around the cap/charge is to create a Virgin Atlantic Household account. Now unfortunately this is a lot more limited than the British Airways Household account predominately because ONLY GOLD ELITE members can create one!

If you are lucky enough to have Gold Elite Status you can combine and group your Flying Club account with up to 9 other people from the same household. Once setup all Virgin Points earned by Household Account Linked Members will automatically transfer to the Gold Member’s account, which can be spent by the Gold Tier member or by other members who have been added as authorised users by the Gold Tier member.

If you lose your Gold Elite status e.g. by not flying enough the Household account is automatically cancelled… ouch!

If you are lucky enough to be a Gold Elite member you can get in contact with Virgin to apply.

Is there another way to combine Virgin Points for a booking?

Yes! But unofficially…

If both of you are travelling and want to use points from both of your accounts for a booking you can contact Virgin Atlantic by phone & speak to an agent. They can take points from both accounts to make a booking but both of you need to be there to authenticate the transaction. This is useful particularly if you have a 2-4-1 voucher and points between you for an upper-class ticket!

Remember this is unofficial with NO GUARANTEES!

Conclusion

How do you share your Virgin points with friends and family? Are you lucky enough to be Gold Elite and have a household account? Do you stick to booking for them or paying to send them Virgin Points? Or have you managed to combine Virgin Points at the time of booking?
