Did You Know You Can Use Your Emirates Skywards Miles On EasyJet?

Emirates is widely regarded to have one of the best first-class/business-class cabins in the world so why would you use your points on EasyJet? Well, Emirates has a hard expiry policy with miles generally expiring 3 years after they’ve been earnt. If your Emirates Skywards Miles are expiring and you have no realistic prospect of getting a larger redemption you may well be tempted by another flight redemption option…

How much does an EasyJet flight cost with Emirates Skywards Miles?

The cost in miles is based loosely on the cash rate for the ticket you want to buy. This is because you are basically swapping your miles for Emirates to pay cash to EasyJet. Your ticket will be non-refundable and non-changeable like all other EasyJet tickets.

£64.57 or 25,462 Miles – 0.25p per mile value
£68.98 or 26,759 Miles – 0.26p per mile value
£142.93 or 59,392 Miles – 0.24p per mile value
£214.98 or 69,700 Miles – 0.31p per mile value

As you can see the value isn’t great and mainly hovers around 1/4 of a penny whereas you should be able to get 1p+ worth of value when redeeming for Emirates Business/First Class flights.

The Emirates Skywards Miles covers the entire cost of the flight there are no additional ‘taxes & fees’ to pay. You can even use your miles to pay for seat selection, baggage, etc as long as it is booked as part of the original transaction.

Do I have another redemption options if I don’t have enough for an Emirates redemption?

You have a few different options…

  1. You can use them for partner redemptions on Airlines such as Qantas, Malaysia Airlines, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, TAP Portugal and Air Mauritius.
  2. You can convert them into Heathrow Rewards, which will enable you to exchange them for shopping vouchers at Heathrow Airport. Due to a ring-fencing deal, you can’t transfer of miles from Emirates to Heathrow Rewards and subsequently to Avios.
  3. You can use them as a part-payment towards a hotel booking.
  4. You can use your points for experiences such as Arsenal football tickets.

Conclusion

Whilst not a great value redemption using expiring miles for an EasyJet flight at least means they aren’t wasted. If you want to redeem points for easyJet flights there aren’t really any great options as they don’t have a points-based loyalty scheme. You could collect and redeem membership reward points as a statement credit against an EasyJet flight booked on your card. This is slightly better value per point (0.45p) than using Emirates Skywards Miles but still poor value!
