Is it better to book with IHG or Mr & Mrs Smith?

Whilst you can book Mr & Mrs Smith hotels through IHG the price isn’t always the cheapest (but you will earn IHG points on your stay.) So always compare the price between sites before booking! All IHG members booking with IHG receive a “BlackSmith welcome gift but this is something you can get by joining Mr & Mrs Smith BlackSmith membership for free.

How do I get FREE GoldSmith Membership?

Mr & Mrs Smith has an ongoing promotion with American Express, where Platinum cardmembers enjoy a free upgrade to GoldSmith and the remaining to SilverSmith. If you are eligible you will be asked to fill in your details, either existing ones to upgrade your existing account or new ones to register for a new account with your new membership. Within a few minutes of applying, we had our new account with GoldSmith status!

What benefits does membership have/how much does it normally cost?

BlackSmith Membership

Free to join, 1% cashback on bookings, and Smith Extras

SilverSmith Membership

£100 annual fee, 2% cashback on bookings, Smith Extras, and Priority Pass membership

GoldSmith Membership

£400 annual fee, 3% cashback on bookings, Smith Extras, Priority Pass & Onda membership, room upgrade subject to availability, and travel concierge service

Smith Extras are free ‘extra’ touches to your stay which can be anything from a welcome fruit platter, free breakfast to a free bottle of wine, and more. Depending on the property you stay at SIlverSmith & GoldSmith members can/do get ‘better’ Smith Extras than the previous tier.

Unfortunately, the Priority Pass membership doesn’t offer any free visits with each visit charged at £20 (plus you can only apply for it after completing your first stay.) The Onda membership also isn’t really a ‘membership’ per se. It just allows you to contact your concierge whilst you are on a Mr & Mrs Smith trip and they will arrange access for you. So all in all a little underwhelming if you are paying £400 a year, especially as room upgrades are subject to availability! Good job you can get it for free…
