Our Review Of The Hilton Nottingham (Recently Refurbed!)

With my partner’s brother moving back from university (and not wanting to make a return trip on the same day) we decided to spend a few days in Nottingham. After a brief look, we booked the Hilton Nottingham due to its central location. It has mixed reviews online but due to its recent refurb, we decided to give it a go. We booked two rooms for two nights at a cost of 30,000 Hilton Points per room per night. The total cost was 120,000 Hilton points rather than the total cash price of just over £700. (hotel prices are exceptionally high right now!) My Diamond status with Hilton means breakfast was included for free.

Location

The hotel is located on Milton Street, next to the Victoria Centre right in the centre of Nottingham. If you arrive by car as you approach the hotel there are signs directing you to the Trinity Square Car Park for parking. As a hotel guest, you get a discounted rate of £13 per 24-hour period rather than the standard £16. To obtain this you must get your ticket validated at the hotel reception after parking.

Being in the centre means everything is within easy walking distance including shops, restaurants and of course Nottingham Castle. The train station is roughly a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Milton Street is pretty lively at night so you might want to book a room towards the back of the hotel if you don’t want to test the hotel’s soundproofing.

Hilton Nottingham

Immediately as you walk into the hotel you’ll notice a small lounge & reception on the left. Directly in front of you is access to the gym & the lifts and the restaurant to the right. We had checked in already on our phone but went to the front desk to collect a keycard. The service was quick and friendly and we were offered a glass of champagne upon arrival which we declined. In addition to this, we were given 2 x two free drink vouchers but unfortunately no upgrade.

Once you’ve checked in (or if you’ve already checked in!) You have the option between two lifts or stairs. During peak times the lifts get very busy and you may end up waiting quite a long time (they are quite slow too!) If you are able to (particularly if you are on floor 1 or 2 take the stairs!)

The Room

We booked rooms 410 & 411 which were both King Guest Rooms. (I dread to think how small the ‘Cosy Double’s’ are.) This review focuses on room 411 which is the room I stayed in. Both rooms have the same features however the layout and space do vary slightly from room to room.

As you enter the room you enter a small corridor with the bathroom located to the right. Opposite the bathroom is two coat hooks (where you’ll also find your hair dryer). After this, on the left, is a large body-length mirror. At the end of the corridor before you enter the main bedroom space in a small open wardrobe. Underneath this is the room safe behind a hinged door.

As you enter the main bedroom you have the TV on the left (opposite the bed.) On the far left, you have your tea-making facilities, a small table, and a stool (not great if you need to work.) At the far end of the room is your window. Unfortunately, there isn’t much of a view outside the window (to be expected) and is just the other side of the building (so no photo!)

The bed is located to the right and has two bedside tables on either side. Although they looked like they had drawers we couldn’t find a way to open them. So you are extremely limited on storage space which would be very impractical on a longer stay.

Our rooms were located at the back of the 4th floor and in the corner of the building a little away from most of the other rooms. We didn’t hear a single noise from our room all night (either from guests or from the outside.) So if you want to ensure a good sleep consider booking towards the back of the building.

The Bathroom

The bathroom is an OK size but only suitable for one person at a time. On the right, you have the mirror/sink (with Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries), directly in front of you is the toilet and to the left is a decent shower.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served downstairs in The Bric Bar & Kitchen which is located on the ground floor to the left as you exit the lifts. As diamond members, it is included for free. If you don’t have breakfast included it will set you back £15 a person (£10 if booked in advance.)

The Restaurant offers operates a buffet service. On the buffet, you’ll find a mixture of juices, pastries, bread, continental meats, fruit, yoghurts, cereal and cooked options such as bacon, sausages and eggs etc. Whilst not as expansive as higher-end Hiltons there is still a good selection. There was also an egg station to have your eggs/omelettes cooked on demand and a pancake machine for fresh pancakes. Unfortunately, the Gluten Free section was limited to pre-packaged Bread, Rolls & Muffins though you could request something fresh from the Kitchen if you wanted.

Other

The hotel also features a gym and spa, which is a nice bonus. We didn’t get the opportunity to visit either but the gym appears to be well equipped and the pool appears to be a good size from the hotel’s pictures.

Late check-out at the Hilton Nottingham

The normal check-out time is 11 am but we were able to stay until 12.30 pm on request.

Hilton Nottingham Conclusion

We enjoyed our stay at the Hilton Nottingham and would certainly return if we stayed in Nottingham again. Its location, friendly service, and decent breakfast made for a great stay and ticked all of our boxes. Rooms start at 30,000 Hilton points a night or around £105 a night.
