Looking To Transfer Avios To Another Person? BA Has Massively Slashed The Cost!

Looking to transfer Avios to another person through BA? In unexpected (and unannounced) news BA has massively slashed the cost of transferring Avios to another person! The new pricing is far more reasonable than the existing pricing and opens up some interesting avenues you might like to explore to maximise your Avios earning!

What was the existing fees to Transfer Avios To Another Person?

In our opinion paying to transfer miles you/your friends or family has earnt is one of the biggests ripoffs in the world of point collecting. Various airlines and hotel groups will charge you a fee to send your points to another person. Why? Whilst some may proclaim it’s to stop users selling their points to other users (there are other mechanisms that could be put in place) to us it sounds like a bit of a money spinner obtaining more money for miles/points that already exist!

BA’s existing fees are below (Gold members can transfer for free)

1,000 – 6,000 Avios – £25

7,000 – 12,000 Avios – £65

13,000 – 18,000 Avios – £100

19,000 – 24,000 Avios – £140

25,000 – 27,000 Avios – £175

Bearing in mind no new miles are being created here and you are paying around 50% the cost of buying miles direct from BA! A money spinner for BA? Well, perhaps not as BA have now changed their fees for transferring Avios to another person…

What is the new fee to Transfer Avios To Another Person?

Transfer Avios To Another Person

For non-Gold members the fee is now a flat £15 up to your annual transfer limit of 27,000 Avios to any one person. Why it needed to be such a big table with the same charge repeated for each amount… who knows! For Gold members there is no change with the transfers remaining free.

You can view the BA website with the new fee table here – https://pgt.shopping.ba.com/resources/pricing-share

Important to know

You can share up to 162,000 Avios per calendar year but each individual recipient can only recieve up to 27,000 Avios per calendar year.

Recipients can only recieve 27,000 Avios per calendar year. This limit is the total that can recieved, irrespective of the number of Senders.

Avios must be transferred in multilples of 1,000

How can I take advantage of this change?

There a few different ways you could take advantage of this change…

  1. Want to use the Avios of a family member without the complications of setting up a household account? Now you can transfer up to 27,000 per calendar year for £15.
  2. Have a friend/family member who has some Avios that they don’t want/never going to use? It may be worth giving them £15 to transfer them to you…
  3. Does your family/partner show no interest in collecting points but would be happy to take a credit card for you to hit the spending target and keep the points? Well, now they could take out, for example, the Amex Gold card for a 20,000 points bonus, transfer the points to Avios then pay £15 for 20,000 Avios… not too shabby!

There are probably many more if you use your imagination! Overall this represents a great change by BA, we are just surprised it hasn’t recieved more coverage!
