Amex Business Card Holder? Sell Your Amex Points For 0.9p

American Express has brought back their offer on doubling the value of Membership Reward points if you have an Amex Business Card. If you are looking to sell your Amex points there is no better time to do so. By using your Amex points to pay for almost any item on your card statement, you’ll get double the value! In effect selling them for 0.9p rather than 0.45p.

Want to sell your Amex Points?

If you use membership reward points for statement credit normally you would receive £4.50 per 1,000 membership reward points. This is the normal selling rate and is very poor value! With the 100% boost, you will now receive £9 per 1,000 membership reward points. This offer runs until 30th April.

This offer has been around for a few weeks but it now seems a lot more, if not all, Amex Business Cards are included whereas initially, they weren’t.

To sell your Amex points login to your Amex Business Card account – https://www.americanexpress.com/uk/ – and select the ‘Use Points for Purchases’ button. Here you will be able to select a transaction you want to use your points against. You should see towards the top right 1000 MR = £9. Double check this before redeeming! Remember you can only redeem your points against actual purchases made on your card. You can’t redeem for cash in your bank account.

Is it worth selling your Amex Points?

It’s great value compared to the normal redemption value! Compare the 0.9p value you’d get redeeming for cash to my valuation of transferring your membership reward points into the following…

British Airways – Avios – 1p
British Airways – Avios – Nectar – 0.8p
Marriott Bonvoy – 0.66p
Hilton Honors – 0.5p
Retailer gift card – 0.5p
Nectar 0.5p
Amazon pay with points – 0.45p

The above rates are my ‘standard’ valuation of what I believe the points to be worth

As you can see redeeming for cash (statement credit) is a pretty decent option coming in just under Avios in terms of ‘value.’ It’s also slightly above the 0.8p value from transferring to Avios and then to Nectar points.

Do bear in mind it is possible to get outsized value on hotel/airline redemptions depending on cash prices. You may, however, find cash in the bank (saved from redeeming your points) a much more desirable situation.

Don’t forget cash also has the benefit of being a lot more flexible allowing you to redeem for almost anything you can pay for with your Amex Business card!

Conclusion

This is the second time this offer has appeared but with Covid restrictions in theory ending soon I have my doubts about it appearing again. So if you didn’t take part in the offer last time you might like to this time. If you can pay with your card you can redeem your points for it! At 0.9p a point you might just be swayed to part with them…
