Can I Convert Eurostar Points To Avios?
If you aren’t a frequent Eurostar customer you might be wondering, can I convert Eurostar points to Avios? Particularly if you know, realistically, you don’t often travel on the Eurostar and your points may expire but you frequently use Avios. The short answer is yes, it is possible BUT it’s poor value and a little tricky to achieve…
Are you sure you want to convert Eurostar Points to Avios?
The minimum transfer out if you want to convert your points to Avios is 1,000 Eurostar Points which is equal to an off-peak return to Paris. Compare this to 1,000 Eurostar Points converted into Avios which would leave you with 3,000 Avios, this isn’t even enough for a one-way flight to Paris. You will receive a lot more value by keeping your Eurostar Points and redeeming them inside the program. Still not convinced?
How to Convert Eurostar Points To Avios
The first thing to note is that you can’t directly convert your Eurostar points to Avios. You need to transfer them initially at a rate of 500:1500 to Accor Live Limitless & then need to transfer them to Iberia Plus. Why? Transfers to Iberia Plus are 1:1 with a minimum of 3,000 points but transfers to British Airways are 1:0.5 with a minimum of 4,000 points meaning you’d be a lot worse off! All you need to do is set up an Iberia Plus account and then transfer your Avios to British Airways using the Combine My Avios feature.
So 1,000 Eurostar points would convert to 3,000 Accor points which in turn convert into 3,000 Avios in Iberia. You would then use the Combine My Avios feature to end up with 3,000 Avios in your British Airways account. 3 steps and a big loss of value. Worth it? We will leave that up to you!
Conclusion
As you can see converting your Eurostar points to Avios is very poor value compared to using the points on Eurostar itself. It is, however, perhaps a useful option if your points would otherwise go to waste.
