The taxes are still brutal. The network is shrinking. But there is still serious value to extract if you know exactly where to look.

How the Virgin Atlantic credit card voucher works in 2026

You earn the voucher by hitting a specific spend target within your cardholder year. On the Virgin Atlantic Reward+ Mastercard, which carries a £160 annual fee, you need to spend £10,000. On the free Reward Mastercard, the target is £20,000. Once triggered, the voucher lands in your Flying Club account and is valid for exactly 24 months. You must fly the outbound leg before that expiry date, though the return flight can fall later.

This makes it vastly easier to hit the spend target in places that reject American Express.

The Virgin Atlantic credit card voucher is a frustrating benefit. The high taxes and the Red tier penalty dilute the magic of a companion reward. Never use this voucher for Economy. The taxes on a Virgin Economy reward seat hover around £400. You can often buy a cash ticket for £450 in a sale. Using a voucher you spent £10,000 to earn just to save £50 is terrible maths.

If you have a healthy points balance and want to fly Upper Class to South Africa or the Caribbean, the voucher still saves you a fortune compared to cash fares.
