Marriott Point Price Rises – Book Now!

The Marriott Point Price Rises for 2020 have just been announced. Like normal more hotels are going up a category (and cost) than ones moving down. The changes take place on the 4th March 2020 so if you are thinking of making a booking do it sooner rather than later.

What’s the damage of the Marriott Point Price Rises?

Around 29% of hotels will be changing their reward category. 7% of hotels are decreasing in price whilst a huge 22% of hotels are increasing in price.

A favourite of ours the JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa is going up from category 6 to 7. A little closer to home in the United Kingdom the damage isn’t so bad with a mixture of rises and decreases. Here are some examples…

London Marriott Hotel County Hall – Category 7 to 8

London Marriott Hotel Park Lane – Category 7 to 8

Moxy London Heathrow Airport – Category 4 to 3

Sheraton Skyline Hotel London Heathrow – Category 5 to 4

And outside of London…

The Langley, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Buckinghamshire – Category 5 to 6

Aloft Liverpool – Category 3 to 4

Northampton Marriott Hotel – Category 4 to 3

Renaissance Manchester City Centre Hotel – Category 5 to 4

You can view all the changes and check which hotels are increasing in points here – https://points-redemption.marriott.com/category-change/marriott-bonvoy

How do I minimise the damage?

If your favourite hotel is moving to a higher category, you can save points by booking at the current redemption rate before the changes go into effect. You will need the full points for the redemption. Booking whilst you don’t have the points only secures the room not the price.

If it’s moving to a lower category, you might want to wait until the changes take effect. If you already have a hotel booked & you want to take advantage of lower pricing you will need to cancel and rebook. Your booking won’t automatically default to the new pricing.

Remember you have until the 3rd of March to secure your bookings before the increase! Be sure to check out the SPG card which currently offers a 30,000 Marriott Point Sign up bonus. If you need a referral for bonus points check here – https://pointsuncovered.com/amex-referral-link-uk/ . If you want the bonus points be sure to sign up before 26th February as the bonus is decreasing from 30,000 to 20,000.
