50% bonus buying Marriott points

Marriott Bonvoy has launched a promotion where you will receive 50% bonus when buying Marriott points. To get the bonus you need to purchase at least 2,000 Marriott points. The offer runs until the 25th March… so you have around a month to get your purchase in if you are interested!

Is buying Marriott points a good deal?

Here you are purchasing points for around 0.64P each (varying on the exchange rate.) Although I value the points I have at 0.66p each (so ever so slightly lower than my valuation.) I’m not a purchaser at this rate UNLESS:

1. In some cash expensive hotels buying points and redeeming them for a stay is better value than paying cash. This is especially true if you hold any Marriott status (just join for FREE here) and get 5 nights for the price of 4. A good example where points are great value is the St Regis New York – here a random 5 night stay will set you back $4,924 or 355,000 Marriott points which with this offer (if you could buy enough) would cost you $2,958.34… a lot better value.
   
   The problem here is getting enough points! A member can only purchase 150,000 (bonus included) points with the cap! One way around this is if friends/family members have Marriott accounts and purchase points for you. They can transfer up to 100,000 points each to you every year. 2. I need the points to top me up to make a redemption

If you are a few points short of the amount needed for a redemption the price per point isn’t really a concern. Now would be as good time as any to top up your point collection! (Typically you’ll see a 30% bonus offered.)

The standard annual cap of being able to purchase 50,000 Marriott points per calendar year has doubled. You can purchase up to 100,000 points with a 50,000 point bonus. This means you can purchase 150,000 points for $1250 (approx £965.)

You will need to do this in 2 separate transactions as you can only buy a maximum of 50,000 points per transaction (before any bonuses)
