Hilton Budapest City

For our first break of the year me and my partner wanted to go somewhere that we’d never been before. We settled on Budapest after a little deliberation… the lure of great hot chocolates & good gluten free was to great to resist! We wanted to book a Hilton so we could benefit from the lounge and free breakfast as Diamond members and decided on the Hilton Budapest City over the Hilton Budapest Castle District as it was a cracking deal at £250ish for 3 nights!

Location

The hotel is located on the Pest side of the river approximately 30 minutes from the Airport. As we arrived in the evening we pre-booked the hotel taxi to bring us to the Hilton for convenience. This cost around £35 and wasn’t the cheapest of options, other taxis are cheaper (our return was £25 with a ton of traffic) & the public transport is also good and very cheap!

The hotel is connected to a big shopping mall with lots of different shops including food and drink options. There are supermarkets such as Aldi and Lidl and lots of restaurants and fast food places such as McDonalds a short walk away. It’s located a 15/20 minute walk from the Parliament and a similar distance to walk to the Buda side of the river.

Nearby you have good public transport links including the mainline train station, underground and trams to get to other parts of Budapest. Other tourist attractions such as the Thermal Baths, Budapest Castle and Margaret Island are only a shot public transport trip away.

Hilton Budapest City

The hotel reception is a nice big open space and as there was several desk agents on it wasn’t long before we was checked in. As diamond members the hotel upgraded us from a regular king size room to a king deluxe suite and informed us about the complimentary breakfast offering in the executive lounge. At the back of the reception, just off picture to the left in the picture on the right is a door which is a shortcut into the shopping mall.

The Room

Hilton Budapest City - Room 1

The room felt a little dated but was very comfortable as you walked in the entrance past the bathroom and a wardrobe you entered a space with a small TV, two chairs and a little table.

Hilton Budapest City - Room 2

Our welcome gift was a small selection of cakes and some fizzy wine, which was okay!

Hilton Budapest City - Room 3

Through the space into the next section was the double bed, which was very comfortable. On the right there was a desk, mini fridge & tea/coffee etc, a mirror and TV. At the back was some additional storage space for belongings and clothing etc.

The Bathroom

The bathroom was a reasonable size and had a bath tub as well as a shower. Standard Hilton toiletries supplied. The shower water pressure was good however the towels were very abrasive!

The Executive Lounge

The executive lounge was generally well stocked throughout our stay and spacious. Even during the middle of happy hour we could find a seat. There’s an outdoors patio area and terrace which were both very pleasant with views over the city. The lounge had afternoon tea 3-5pm (little pastries/cakes,) Happy hour was 6-8pm with alcoholic and soft drinks, appetisers (olives, breads, salad, mini starters etc) and the choice of 3 main courses. If enquired in advance they would also make sure there was a dish suitable for allergies included in the offering.

Breakfast

As a diamond member we was offered complimentary breakfast in the executive lounge. Here you’ll find a small selection of pastries, fruit and cooked options such as bacon, sausages and eggs etc! We didn’t really rate the breakfast so after the first morning we didn’t return and decided to instead buy some fresh pastries from a gluten free bakery every morning.

Conclusion

Overall our long weekend at the Hilton Budapest City was good, It’s location means it’s easy to get to the city centre and other tourist attractions without too much hassle. For how busy the surrounding area was the hotel was surprisingly quiet inside which meant we slept well. The rooms are a little dated and could do with a refresh although we appreciate the upgrade to a lovely spacious suite. If we were to visit again I think we would check out the Hilton near Budapest castle. For more details and booking click through here – Hilton Budapest City
