Hampton by Hilton Gdansk Old Town

To complete everywhere I wanted to see in Poland (of particular interest the European Solidarity Centreme & WW2 Museum) me and one of my friends booked a 3 night stay in the Hampton by Hilton Gdansk Old Town. Initially the rate was approximately £100 a night, £300 total however using Hilton’s Price Match Guarantee we ended up paying £60 a night, £180 total! Alternatively standard point redemptions are available at 30,000.

Location

The location is smack bang in the middle of old town in Gdansk., approximately a 20 minute drive from the airport. Looking at the Uber app prior to arriving we saw there were always drivers around so we booked one whilst collecting our luggage and paid approximately £7 to be dropped off around the corner from our hotel. More on that later! Alternatively it’s a 30 min train ride to Gdansk Glowny from the Airport and about a 10 minute walk to the hotel.

The hotel is next door to a little supermarket, handy to pick up any snacks/drinks (with a larger shopping centre with more amenities a 15 minute walk, Forum Gdansk.) There are lots of bars, pubs, restaurants and fast food places such as Subway & McDonald’s a short walk away.

It’s located a 10/15 minute walk from the European Solidarity Centreme & WW2 Museum and a similar distance to walk across the river to the Ferris Wheel etc. Closer to the hotel you have The Neptune Monument and St. Mary’s Basilica for stunning views over old town!

We entered via the small entrance from Old Town rather than the main entrance with the car park (our Uber would only drop us around the corner from the hotel, if you use Uber in Gdasnk you’ll notice that there are a couple of pick up points you can choose in old town rather than being picked up from where you are standing!)

The reception is straight down from the small entrance past the sofas or on your left hand side if you enter from the car park. We arrived around 30 minutes before check in time however our room still wasn’t ready (we had been upgraded from a standard twin room to a city view twin room) we dropped our bags to return later. On our return an hour or so later we picked up a key card and Diamond benefit of a snack and a drink. Our room was situated on the 2nd floor in one of the rooms furthest away from the lifts.

The Room

The room was modern and large, it was long shaped like a rectangle and featured a desk & chair on the left side. On the right side was two twin beds with a bedside table in between with plugs to charge devices available without having to remove anything! Opposite the beds was a good size TV, underneath featured your usual tea/coffee making facilities and 2 bottles of complimentary water. To the side of one of the wins beds you have a chair and foot stool.

The slidey bathroom doors doubles up as the wardrobe door inside which you’ll find an ironing board/iron, hairdryer and hanging space.

The Bathroom

The bathroom was clean, modern and practical with a shower, no bath. As per normal in a Hampton you have non removable toiletries, these seemed pleasant enough. The shower was typical of Hampton’s and easy to flood the bathroom if you aren’t careful! Water pressure was good and temperature control was easy enough. The bathroom also had it’s own temperature control.

Breakfast

The hotel offers complimentary breakfast to all guests from 6am/7am on weekends. Here you’ll find a limited selection of cereals, pastries, fruit and cooked options such as bacon, sausages and eggs etc! Plus the normal watery fruit juices! I wasn’t a fan of the breakfast as the quality was low compared to other Hampton’s I have stayed at. After one visit we never came back and decided to eat elsewhere.

Everything else…

There’s a small but functional fitness centre or gym on the 2nd floor with a few options for cardio/weights. I can’t imagine it’s used much by the amount times we were too and from and didn’t see anyone in it.

Downstairs to the left hand side of reception there is a little bar however with the wide range of pubs and bars a stones throw away from the hotel you are much better off going elsewhere for experience and price!

Conclusion

Overall Hampton by Hilton Gdansk Old Town is a great option for a short city break to Gdansk. It’s central location means most things are only a short walk away! The rooms are clean and modern, friendly staff however the breakfast was disappointing so factor that in when booking. For more details and booking click through here –
