Am I Eligible For An Amex Signup Bonus?
Having collected a nice chunk of bonus points from your Amex signup bonus have you wondered what other signup bonuses you could get from Amex too? Are you worried about taking out another card in case you are ruled ineligible for another Amex signup bonus? Worry no more…
This is my experience using the points system and is not a recommendation of any financial product. There are other credit cards which can earn you travel points including IHG credit card, Tesco Credit Cards (by exchanging Clubcard points for avios, hotel stays and more) & Virgin Atlantic credit card. If you email for a referral to an American Express card upon you being accepted I will receive points, this varies between 9,000 – 18,000 depending on the card I refer you from. I will inform you of the correct amount when you get in contact for a link. Email info(at)pointsuncovered.com for a link!
So What Are The Rules About Being Eligible For An Amex Signup Bonus?
If you have held or hold a personal card from American Express in the past 24 months you aren’t eligible for a sign-up bonus from an American Express card. There are two major exceptions to this:
1) British Airways American Express Premium Plus Card
You cannot of held or currently hold an Avios earning card in the last 24 months to be eligible for a sign up bonus. You can hold another personal American Express card and still be eligible for the sign-up bonus.
2) The Platinum Card
You cannot of held or currently hold a Membership Reward points earning card in the last 24 months to be eligible for a sign up bonus. You can hold another personal American Express card and still be eligible for the sign-up bonus.
Let’s take a look at the different cards, reward currencies and what Amex signup bonuses you could be eligible for!
Membership Reward Points
American Express® Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card
The American Express® Rewards Credit Card
The American Express® Rewards Low Rate Credit Card
The American Express® Rewards Purchases Credit Card
Plus their Centurion, Gold Business and Platinum Business charge cards!
Avios
British Airways American Express® Premium Plus Card
British Airways American Express® Credit Card
Marriott Bonvoy
The Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express
Nectar
If you meet the above criteria it does not matter if you are a supplementary card holder on someone else’s account in the currency either. Only primary card holders, as they are the ones that get the bonus!
With there being 4 different loyalty schemes you could in theory you could keep rotating through cards collecting referral and signup bonuses with a partner! Although with the recent changes by American Express this is a lot more difficult, you would however still get a referral bonus even if your partner isn’t eligible for a sign-up bonus.
I hope this helps clear up what signup bonuses you may be eligible for. Please feel free to ask any questions in the comments below.
