Use Marriott Best Rate Guarantee To Save On Hotels

One benefits of the Marriott program which you might not be aware of is the Marriott Best Rate Guarantee. Here they guarantee you will get the best rate booking direct with them if not, they will match the price AND take an additional 25% off or give you 5,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points (your choice!) If the cash rate is high whether it be because it’s a luxury hotel or due to an event or seasonal reasons it’s a great way to save some money.

How does Marriott Best Rate Guarantee work?

The Marriott website explains it quite simply…

OUR BEST RATE. GUARANTEED.
There are few guarantees in life. But our Best Rate Guarantee is one of the best. It assures that you’ll always get the best rate available when you book directly with Marriott®. Here’s how it works:

Make a reservation using any official Marriott reservation channel (Marriott.com, SPG.com, Marriott App, SPG App, Customer Engagement Centers, or directly with a hotel).

If you find a lower rate for the same hotel, same room type, and same reservation dates on a non-Marriott website or non-Marriott mobile app (“Comparison Rate”) you may submit a Best Rate Guarantee claim.

If we approve your claim, we’ll match the Comparison rate AND give you your choice of either an extra 25% discount on the room OR give you 5,000 Marriott Loyalty Program Points.

Though of course there a few caveats to this, as the text states if we approve, it means you can’t just find any rate that is cheaper at any points there are a few restrictions…

  1. The type of rate must be the same e.g. rates that have different rules such as cancellation or refund policies, rates that include differing guaranteed custom room options aren’t eligible. Certain sites and other types of rates aren’t eligible either. See the full details under Applicable Rates here.
  2. There must be at least $1 in difference between the cheaper rate you have found AND the rate must still be available when Marriott checks.
  3. You must submit your Best Rate Guarantee within 24 hours of booking your hotel.
  4. You cannot change anything on your reservation after a Best Rate Guarantee, not even a name change.

These are the four main things to look out for/remember when making your Marriott Best Rate Guarantee Claim. This list isn’t conclusive so do check out all the terms here. To make sure you choose an eligible rate to compare to!

An example…

Rate before Marriott Best Rate Guarantee claim

As there is a concert going on in Manchester on the dates we wanted to stay (29/30th May 2019) the cash rates were very high compared to typical. As we needed to stay anyway as we was going to the concert and we didn’t live local I booked the hotel. We then set about looking for a cheaper rate elsewhere!

Within 15 minutes I had found a cheaper rate on the Expedia app using a publicly promoted code APP10 – I set about filling in the Best Rate Guarantee form including where I found the rate and including the code in the additional information box. About 20 hours later we had the email saying our best rate guarantee was APPROVED and we’d be saving an additional 25% of the matched price. Hooray!
