Hampton by Hilton Berlin City West

Having visited Germany many times I hadn’t yet had the chance to go to Berlin and see the Berlin Wall…well what is left of it! So when a family trip to Berlin came up I jumped on board! We stayed at the Hampton by Hilton Berlin City West. It’s location near the zoological gardens in Berlin meant the location was familiar to my parents who have visited Berlin previously.

Location

The hotel is located about 25 minutes from Tegel Airport by Bus (no trains to/from Tegel airport.) Alternatively it’s a 15 minute taxi ride… but with how cheap and regular the bus is, why would you? Alternatively if you are arriving into Schönefeld Airport you are looking at a hours train ride or 30 min taxi!

Nearby is the Zoological gardens (10/15 minute walk) where there is a supermarket, restaurants and fast food places such as McDonald’s. Here you can pick up the express bus to/from the airport and get a train into the city amongst other places. There is also another train station 5 minute walk from the hotel called Savignyplatz, depending on where you are going to this may work out quicker for you! Here you can easily reach destinations such as Alexandraplatz, the Berlin Wall & the Brandenburg Gate.

We arrived to check in around 1PM. As the hotel wasn’t full we were able to check in straight away and head up to our rooms. We were pre-upgraded to rooms on their top floor with balconies upon request from my partner. As Diamond members we were also given a voucher for 2 snacks that we could redeem in the little snack bar next to reception.

On the ground floor as well as reception and the snack bar you also have the bar, breakfast area & lounge area. There is also a small area with computers & printer.

The Room

The room was a good size, as you walk in the bathroom is on the left before the space opens up to the main body of the room. On the right side is the TV, kettle and desk. On the left side is the double bed with a small table area either side and an armchair & foot stool on one side.

Facing the bed up on the left side is a rather small wardrobe here there is an ironing board, irons and a few hangers.

Outside on the balcony there is a chair table with views over the rail tracks. Exciting right? On a positive note we was never disturbed by any noise from passing trains!

The Bathroom

The bathroom was clean, modern and practical with a shower, no bath. As per normal in a Hampton you have non removable toiletries, these were pleasant enough. The shower was somewhat temperamental with the slightest of adjustments seemingly adding another 20c to the temperature!

Breakfast

As per normal in Hampton by Hilton’s the breakfast is included for all guests staying. It includes the normal things such as cereals, pastries, yogurts, fruit and hot items such as sausages, eggs and pancakes. There was also a waffle maker & plenty of watery fruit juices. It is the normal Hampton quality which I find quite low!

As I have coeliac disease I asked as to what I would be able to eat from the breakfast (as per the sign regarding allergies) and was told that I could eat no cooked goods… rather helpful! They did however have bread I could have. I stuck to Yoghurt and pastries I bought from the delicious Gluten Free Bakery across town.

Conclusion

With good transport links to the centre of Berlin and beyond and only a short walk to the zoological gardens and many shops it’s in a great location. I wish they were more helpful with dealing with an allergy at breakfast. That being it shouldn’t detract from an otherwise lovely stay. We paid around 220 euros for 3 nights, alternatively you book for 40,000 Hilton Points a night.
