If you’ve been searching the web about travel points you may have seen the American Express Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card often mentioned by bloggers & websites. It has one of the most generous sign up offers (10,000 Amex Points) considering the card has no annual for the first year! You can also be referred by myself for the American Express Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card, you will receive an additional 2000 points. Email info(at)pointsuncovered.com for a link!
This is my experience using the points system and is not a recommendation of any financial product. There are other credit cards which can earn you travel points including IHG credit card, Tesco Credit Cards (by exchanging Clubcard points for avios, hotel stays and more) & Virgin Atlantic credit card. If you email for a referral to an American Express card upon you being accepted I will receive points, this varies between 9,000 – 18,000 depending on the card I refer you from. I will inform you of the correct amount when you get in contact for a link.
This is my second part of three articles looking at how you can spend your 20,000 Amex Points. The first part focuses on what hotels you can stay in for 20,000 Amex Points. This part focuses on the experiences you can redeem your points for such as concerts, sports events and unique ‘days out.’ The third part then focuses on where you can fly to with your points!
Where can I see what experiences I can get for 20,000 Amex Points?
You can get a range of various common excursions and trips through Amex Travel however if you are looking for something a bit more special or unique take a look at Marriott Moments, Hilton Honors Experiences and Emirates Skywards
What value should I be aiming to get on a experience redemption?
The value of your points here I would say is purely a personal decision if you value experiences over hotel stays. Whereas hotel redemptions are fixed price depending on several factors, a lot of the experiences are auctioned off to the highest bidder which means normal values can go out the window. If you wanted to compare point value to hotel/flying redemptions divide the cash price by how many points it is. You will then get the pence per point value. I typically value Marriott points at 0.66p, Hilton points at 0.5p and Emirates Skywards miles at 1p.
Sometimes these experiences are truly unique and money can’t buy however with others you can search for the same concert, event or experience and compare cash rate to how many points you are redeeming. This way you can see if the redemption makes sense for your circumstances.
